Biography
Rodney Sadler is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 106 in the November 3, 2026 general election, after defeating incumbent Carla Cunningham and Vermanno Bowman in the March 3 Democratic primary.[1][3] A pastor with a Ph.D. from Duke University, he describes himself in a Ballotpedia survey as a Bible scholar and Baptist minister.[1][2]
Sadler earned a bachelor's degree from Howard University in 1989, a graduate degree from the Howard University School of Divinity in 1992, and a Ph.D. from Duke University in 2001.[1] Ballotpedia lists his career experience as serving as a pastor.[1] He said in a Ballotpedia survey that he first went to the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013 and was arrested there while peacefully protesting the Republican-controlled legislature.[2]
Sadler said his campaign centers on affordability, public education and health care as a basic human right.[2] He said he supports raising the state minimum wage to a living wage indexed to inflation and opposes giving Duke Energy what he called a blank check to raise rates.[2]
