DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Alabama House District 2

Biography

Rick Pressnell is the Democratic candidate for Alabama House of Representatives District 2 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Ben Harrison (R).[1][2] A retired Huntsville police supervisor and Army National Guard colonel, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that his priorities include Medicaid expansion, a state lottery for education and protecting the environment.[3]

Rick Pressnell graduated from Clements High School, earned a graduate degree from Auburn University at Montgomery in 1999, and earned a graduate degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2013.[2] He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980.[2] In a Ballotpedia survey, Pressnell said he was born and raised in Limestone County, has been married for 35 years, and spent 21 years as a Huntsville police officer and supervisor.[3] He said he is a retired Army colonel from the Alabama Army National Guard and a combat veteran with two master's degrees.[3]

The Democratic primary for District 2 was canceled, and Pressnell advanced to the general election without appearing on a primary ballot.[2] Pressnell said he wrote Alabama's law on providing a false name to a law enforcement officer, which Rep. Randy Hinshaw introduced, and he named public safety and community policing as policy interests.[3] He also said he is a longtime member of the Tennessee Riverkeepers and a certified master naturalist, and he listed VoteVets among his endorsers.[3]
