Biography
Rick Jackson is the Republican nominee for governor of Georgia, a first-time candidate who founded the health care staffing firm Jackson Healthcare. He spent more than $100 million of his own money in the primary campaign. He proposes cutting the state income tax in half within four years, limiting property-tax increases, and expanding support for sheriffs and law enforcement.[1]
Jackson grew up in Atlanta, including in the Techwood Homes public housing community, and spent time in five foster homes.[1] He attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville but did not finish.[1]
In 1976 he bought the staffing company where he worked and built it into Jackson Healthcare, an Alpharetta-based medical staffing firm that reports annual revenue above $3 billion.[1] He backed a 2022 Georgia law providing tax credits for donations supporting young people leaving foster care.[1]
Jackson, a political newcomer, defeated Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in the June 16 Republican runoff.[1] He is married to Melody Moore Jackson, a Georgia Tech professor.[1]
