On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: U.S. House · New York's 19th Congressional District
Peter Oberacker is a Republican and Conservative New York State Senator for District 51, first elected in 2020, and the Republican nominee for NY-19. A SUNY Delhi graduate who grew up in a family meat market, he worked as a food scientist and founded FormTech Solutions before serving as a town supervisor and Otsego County legislator. He won the June 23, 2026 Republican primary and is challenging incumbent Josh Riley.[1][2][3]
Peter Oberacker was born in Merrick, New York, in 1963 and raised in Schenevus, where he worked in his family's meat market from childhood, according to Wikipedia and a campaign-website biography reproduced by Ballotpedia.[1][3] He graduated from Schenevus High School and from SUNY Delhi (1983, per Wikipedia).[1][3] Oberacker worked with his father at Spicey Pete's Meat Market and became a research chef and food scientist; the state Senate site says he specialized in beef, pork and poultry ingredient formulations.[2][3] He founded FormTech Solutions, a food-innovation company, and his campaign website says he moved its headquarters to his hometown in 2017.[1]
Oberacker served two terms on the Maryland, New York town board and two terms as town supervisor, and then as an Otsego County legislator.[1][2][3] He was elected to the State Senate in November 2020 with 55.4% of the vote, succeeding James Seward, took office January 1, 2021, and was re-elected in 2024.[2][3] In the Senate he is ranking member of the Alcoholism and Substance Use Disorders and Transportation committees and a member of Agriculture, Finance, Higher Education and Labor; his stated focus is rural emergency services, agriculture, broadband and infrastructure.[2] He won the Republican primary for NY-19 on June 23, 2026, and faces Democratic Rep. Josh Riley in November, Spectrum News reported.[4]
Oberacker has volunteered with the C.H. Graham Hose Company for nearly 40 years, is a SUNY Delhi Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, and is a member of the Masonic Lodge.[1][2] He lives in Schenevus.[1][2]
