Biography

Patrick Martinez is the Democratic nominee for the open NY State Assembly District 30 seat.[1][3] A Democratic District Leader for the 30th Assembly District and member of Queens Community Board 2, he grew up in Elmhurst and worked in the tech startup field before entering local party and community roles. He won a close three-way Democratic primary with backing from the Queens County Democratic Party and local unions.[1][2][3]

Martinez describes himself as born and raised in Elmhurst, Queens, where he attended local public schools before Stuyvesant High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Middlebury College in 2009, majoring in Latin American Studies, and a graduate degree from Baruch College in 2020.[4][3] According to his Ballotpedia survey response, he studied in Buenos Aires, taught English in Costa Rica, and after graduating taught elementary school in Incheon, Korea.[3] Back in New York, he worked in the tech startup world, including with Coalition for Queens on tech training and job placement for underrepresented groups. Ballotpedia lists his profession as marketing director, while City & State reported in February 2026 that he works in digital ad sales.[4][3][5]

Martinez moved back to Woodside and joined Queens Community Board 2 in 2022, where he focuses on land use and the OneLIC task force. He serves as Democratic District Leader for Assembly District 30, a post City & State reported he has held since 2022, and says he helped build the Queens Forward Democratic Club.[3][5] He is the nephew of former U.S. Rep. Joe Crowley, according to the Queens Daily Eagle and the Queens Chronicle, and the Queens County Democratic Party endorsed him before he launched his campaign, according to City & State as reported by the Chronicle.[1][2] Martinez won the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary by seven votes over Shamsul Haque after an automatic recount; the Queens Daily Eagle reported union support for his campaign.[1]
