Biography
Patrick Fitzpatrick is the Democratic candidate for Montana State Senate District 6 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Mark Noland.[1][3] A retired Navy Captain and nurse, Fitzpatrick said in a Ballotpedia survey that his priorities are housing costs, health care costs and property taxes.[2]
Patrick Fitzpatrick earned a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University, Bozeman, in 1997 and a graduate degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2008, according to Ballotpedia.[1] In a 2026 Ballotpedia survey, Fitzpatrick said he grew up in Missoula, enlisted in the Navy Reserve as a Seabee in 1992, and began his clinical career at St. Patrick Hospital after earning a nursing degree in 1997.[2] He said he was commissioned as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer, served on active duty from 2000, deployed to Guantánamo Bay in 2009 and Afghanistan in 2011, and finished his career in command of Naval Hospital Bremerton before retiring in 2025 as a Navy Captain.[2]
Fitzpatrick advanced from the Democratic primary for Senate District 6 on June 2, 2026, with 1,753 votes in a race with no other candidate.[1] In his survey responses, he said he supports a housing trust fund, recruiting and supporting clinicians in rural communities, protecting Medicaid, and a circuit-breaker that would cap how fast a property tax bill can rise in one cycle.[2]
