Biography
Pat Dixon is the Libertarian candidate for Texas governor. An engineer and former Lago Vista City Council member, he is a former chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas and ran for the Texas Senate in 2022 (District 14) and 2024 (District 20).[1][2][3] He says he is running on "free market sustainability," which he describes as growth paying for itself.[1]
Pat Dixon has lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maine, Arizona and Virginia, and moved to Texas in 1997, where he has remained.[1] He has said he was studying engineering in college and had no real interest in politics until a philosophy course, after one class of which the professor told him he sounded like a Libertarian; after researching the philosophy, he found he aligned with the party's values.[1]
Dixon served on the Lago Vista City Council and later campaigned for Texas Senate District 14 in 2022 and District 20 in 2024.[1][2] A Wikipedia account of the 2026 governor's race describes him as a former chair of the Libertarian Party of Texas.[3]
As a candidate for governor, Pat Dixon has proposed cutting programs that give incentives to corporate growth, which he says taxpayers are forced to support, and has named the state's statutory inspection of barbecue scales as an example of an unnecessary program.[1] On license plate reader cameras, he has said he is not against law enforcement using reasonable means to find suspects, but that the question is what is done with the data, and he proposes what he calls a digital bill of rights.[1] He has also said that campaigning should resemble a job interview rather than a battle with opponents.[1]
