Nicole Melling

DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: Utah House District 52

Biography

Nicole Melling is the Democratic candidate for the Utah House of Representatives, District 52, in the November 3, 2026 general election, where she faces incumbent Republican Cory Maloy.[1] Melling is a nurse practitioner who, in a Ballotpedia survey, said her top priority as a representative would be to listen to constituents.[1][2]

Melling earned a high school diploma from Carroll High School, a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 2009, and a graduate degree from Weber State University in 2019.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she came from a small farm in Alabama to Utah State University and then BYU, worked nights as a nurse's aide to pay for college, and became a nurse.[2] She said she worked at Heritage Residential Treatment Center, and that she and her husband moved to Lehi in 2011 to raise five children they adopted from foster care.[2] Melling said she later became a nurse practitioner to meet a shortage of providers for children with trauma and their families.[2]

Melling advanced from the Democratic convention for District 52 on April 2, 2026, and the Democratic primary scheduled for June 23, 2026, was canceled.[1] She said she would hold open office hours at least monthly in the district and at her Salt Lake City legislative office during the session, and that she commits to transparency.[2] Melling listed data centers, the repeal of Proposition 4, protections for national monuments, the Great Salt Lake and voting access among the issues she said the Legislature has not handled in line with residents' wishes.[2]
