Biography
Nathan Burnett is the Democratic candidate for the Maine State Senate, District 22, in the November 3, 2026 general election, after advancing from the June 9, 2026 Democratic primary.[1][2] A high school math teacher, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that he wants to be a voice for workers.[3]
Nathan Burnett graduated from Presque Isle High School and earned bachelor's degrees from the University of Maine in 2007 and the University of Southern Maine in 2024.[2] In his survey response, he said he was born in Australia, moved to Maine at 14, and taught math at Sacopee Valley High School for 13 years.[3] He said he is not currently teaching because his school district's population declined and a math position was cut.[3]
Burnett's survey response says he has spoken with people at more than 5,000 doors this year and that property taxes and healthcare costs were the top concerns he heard.[3] He named rural internet connectivity, including finishing the state's broadband investment, as a state-level priority, and listed education, technology and infrastructure as his areas of policy interest.[3]
