Biography
N. Jefferey Sparling is the Green Party candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives, District 14, in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing incumbent Democrat Mike McFall and Republican Larry Szyska.[1][2] Ballotpedia lists his career experience as including work as an educator, entrepreneur, cashier, fast food worker and insurance adjuster.[2]
N. Jefferey Sparling graduated from Sterling Heights High School and earned an associate degree from Macomb Community College in 1982, a bachelor's degree from Oakland University in 1984, and a graduate degree from Central Michigan University in 1994, according to Ballotpedia.[2] He also attended the Detroit College of Law and has been affiliated with the Green Party of Michigan, the Michigan Council for Social Studies, and Genesis the Church, among other organizations.[2]
Sparling was the Green Party candidate for Michigan House District 14 in 2022, when he received 444 votes (1.7 percent) in the general election won by Donavan McKinney.[2] He advanced from the Green Party convention for District 14 on April 25, 2026.[2]
In a Ballotpedia survey, Sparling said he takes no PAC money and runs a grassroots campaign, and that he is running because "both corporate parties have let us down."[3] He named climate, clean energy and social rights as the policy areas he is most passionate about.[3]
