On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: North Carolina House District 1

Biography

Miriam Rollin is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 1 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Republican Ed Goodwin.[1][3] A retired attorney and child-advocacy leader, Rollin said in a Ballotpedia survey that she is running on affordability and public school funding.[1][2]

Miriam Rollin earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University in 1981 and a law degree from the Catholic University of America in 1987.[1] In a 2026 Ballotpedia survey, Rollin described a 40-year career advocating for children and families, including 16 years with Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, work as a prosecutor of criminal child abuse and family violence cases, and work as a civil attorney for abused and neglected children.[2] She said she ran a national education civil rights alliance before retiring.[2]

The Democratic primary for District 1 on March 3, 2026, was canceled, and Rollin is on the general election ballot.[1] In her survey responses, Rollin listed housing, health care, gas, utilities and grocery costs as her main concerns, and said she would work to fund public schools, pay teachers, end school vouchers and change the state tax code so the wealthy and large corporations pay more.[2]
