Biography
Michael Riley, also known as Lou, is the Republican candidate for the Rhode Island House of Representatives, District 41, and an attorney and small business owner from Scituate.[1][3] He faces Democrat Shaina Smith in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2]
Michael Riley earned a high school diploma from the Florida Air Academy, a bachelor's degree from the University of Rhode Island, and a law degree from Roger Williams University School of Law in 2016.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he is a third-generation Scituate resident, a husband and a father of four, and a real estate lawyer who opened his own practice in 2017 and is also a licensed real estate broker in Rhode Island and Florida.[3]
Riley advanced from the Republican primary on September 9, 2026.[1] In the survey, he listed three campaign messages: repealing the state's assault weapons ban, letting decisions about Scituate be made in Scituate rather than by state mandate, and opposing increases in taxes and costs, including the real estate sale tax and the estate tax.[3]
