Biography
Melva Perez is the Republican candidate for Texas House of Representatives District 119 in the November 3, 2026, general election, running against Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Campos.[1][2] Perez served in the U.S. Army from 1995 to 2023 and, according to a Ballotpedia survey response, retired as a lieutenant colonel.[2][3]
Perez was born and raised in Del Rio, Texas, and earned a high school diploma from Del Rio High School and a graduate degree from Webster University in 1999.[2][3] In a Ballotpedia survey, Perez said that the Army career began with enlistment as a private, and that Schertz, Texas, is home.[3]
Perez was the only Republican on the District 119 primary ballot on March 3, 2026, and received 4,134 votes.[2] In the survey, Perez gave the campaign's key messages as service before politics, safer and more prosperous communities, and responsive constituent service, and named public safety, education, small-business growth, infrastructure and fiscal responsibility among policy priorities.[3] Perez also said that protecting children and older adults, including from elder abuse and financial exploitation, is among the strongest policy priorities.[3]
