Biography
Matt Holway is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina House of Representatives District 78, running against incumbent Republican Neal Jackson in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, his campaign described him as a longtime North Carolina resident and community volunteer who has served as an assistant judge with the Moore County Board of Elections.[3]
Matt Holway graduated from Montville Township High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Kean University in 1980.[1] In his Ballotpedia survey, his campaign said he has lived in North Carolina for 40 years, has organized charitable events, coached high school football, and volunteers with the Moore Buddies mentoring program.[3]
According to the same survey, the District 78 Executive Committee selected Holway as the Democratic nominee on July 26, and he was previously registered as a Republican and later unaffiliated before changing his registration to Democratic.[3] One of his three key campaign messages was voting access, including opposition to changes to mail-in voting.[3]
