Matt Gile

Matt Gile is a Democratic and Vermont Progressive Party candidate for the Vermont House of Representatives, Chittenden-21 District, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][3] A school librarian in the Winooski School District and former president of the Winooski Education Association, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that his priorities include housing, health care, and limits on immigration enforcement.[2]

Gile graduated from Colchester High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont in 2008, according to Ballotpedia.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he grew up in Colchester, has worked in libraries throughout his life, and has been the librarian for the Winooski School District for ten years.[2] He described himself as a labor activist and a member of Vermont NEA, and said he is a former president of the Winooski Education Association.[2]

In the survey, Gile said his campaign messages center on abolishing ICE and keeping federal immigration agents out of schools, hospitals and government buildings, treating housing as a human right with investment in public housing and updated zoning, and raising taxes on high earners.[2] He said he supports the Prosper Act, which he described as raising income tax on the top 5 percent and adding a surcharge on unearned investment income, and that taxing the wealthy would allow Vermont to implement the Act 48 mandate for universal health care.[2] He listed Vermont NEA, the Vermont State Employees Association, the Committee of Interns and Residents and Green Mountain DSA as endorsers.[2]
