Biography
Martha McHugh is the Republican and Conservative Party candidate for New York State Senate District 46 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Democrat Patricia Fahy.[1] Her campaign website describes her as a small business owner and mother of two with nearly two decades of experience in New York state government.[2]
According to her campaign website, McHugh, who also goes by "Marti," grew up in Albany as one of eight children, attended Albany schools and earned her degree from SUNY Albany.[2] The site says she spent nearly two decades in state government, including as Assistant Commissioner of Health under Governor George Pataki and as a senior leader at the Wadsworth Center, and that she owned and operated a small business for ten years.[2]
McHugh's campaign website lists safety, affordability, opportunity and accountability as her priorities.[2] Its policy plan includes pausing state taxes, fees and mandates that have raised utility bills, a rebate check for residents who pay a utility bill, a property tax exemption for seniors 65 and older, insurance law reform to lower premiums, and a larger share of child care funding for upstate families.[2]
