Marc Mihaly

Marc Mihaly is a Democratic state representative from Vermont's Washington-6 District who has served since January 2023 and is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election. A former president and dean of Vermont Law School, he is an attorney who lives in East Calais.[1][2]

Marc Mihaly was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lives in East Calais.[1] He volunteered with the U.S. Peace Corps in El Salvador and then earned a J.D.[1] His career experience includes working as a legal aid attorney, in the California attorney general's office and at his own law firm; after moving to Vermont, he worked as a professor, director of the environmental program, and president and dean of the Vermont Law School.[1] He served as vice chair of the Calais Selectboard and became a member of the boards of the Vermont Land Trust, VEIC, Stone Environmental and the East Calais Community Trust.[1]

Mihaly assumed office in the Vermont House on January 4, 2023, and advanced from the Democratic primary on August 11, 2026.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said Vermont needs to be affordable, with more affordable housing, more affordable health care and a better school system, and he cited concern about income inequality and the lack of an adequate social safety net.[3] He listed housing, a universal health care system and equal educational opportunity as his campaign's key messages, and he named housing, environment and land use, health care and education as the policy areas he is most passionate about.[3]
