DCandidate

On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: North Dakota House District 35

Biography

Lynne Lafer-Halvorson is the Democratic candidate for the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 35, in the November 3, 2026 general election, having advanced from the June 9, 2026 Democratic primary.[1][2] A retired middle school teacher and educator, she says in a Ballotpedia survey that she is not a career politician and that her priorities include K-12 funding, housing, child care and family farms.[3]

Lynne Lafer-Halvorson graduated from Pullman High School, attended Western Washington University and earned a bachelor's degree from Washington State University in 1984, according to Ballotpedia.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she was raised in Ohio and Washington State and has been a small business owner, a real estate agent, a paraprofessional trauma counselor, a pre-school teacher, a Head Start site director and a substitute teacher.[3] She said she retired after 17 years as a middle school classroom teacher on a nearby reservation.[3]

Lafer-Halvorson said in the survey that she is seeking office because she believes the state's Republican super-majority has lost touch with residents' needs, and that she wants to strengthen the State Ethics Commission.[3] She listed full funding for K-12 schools, intellectual freedom at universities, housing with a focus on homelessness, child care, small businesses, and family farms and rural communities as her policy passions.[3]
