Biography

Lauren Book is the Democratic candidate for Florida State Senate District 30 in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing Republican Hector Rivera in a race with no incumbent.[1][2] She previously served in the Florida State Senate, was elected Senate minority leader in 2021, and founded the child-advocacy organization Lauren's Kids.[2]

Lauren Book was born in Hollywood, Florida, and earned a B.A. in elementary education and creative writing in 2008 and an M.S. in community psychology and social change in 2012, both from the University of Miami.[2] Her career experience includes founding and serving as CEO of Lauren's Kids, and she has been affiliated with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet and the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking Direct-Support Organization Board of Directors.[2]

Book won election to the Florida State Senate from District 32 and later represented District 35, which she won again in 2022.[2] She was elected state Senate minority leader on April 28, 2021, and left office on November 5, 2024, because term limits kept her from filing for re-election.[2] Her committee assignments included Appropriations, Judiciary and Rules, and she chaired the Children, Families, and Elder Affairs Committee in 2019 to 2022.[2] She advanced from the canceled August 18, 2026 Democratic primary for District 30.[2]
