Biography
Kristian Carranza is the Democratic candidate for Texas House of Representatives District 118 in the November 3, 2026, general election, where Republican Jorge Borrego is also on the ballot in a race with no incumbent.[1][2] Carranza also ran for the seat in 2024.[2]
Carranza advanced from the Democratic primary for District 118 on March 3, 2026, receiving 13,331 votes in a race with no other Democrat on the ballot.[2] In 2024, Carranza defeated Carlos Quezada in the Democratic primary, 63.1% to 36.9%, and then lost the general election to Republican incumbent John Lujan, 48.3% to 51.7%.[2]
In a Ballotpedia Candidate Connection survey completed in 2023, Carranza said that work began at age 16 and that, after returning home during senior year at A&M Corpus Christi to support family, a return to school was followed by jobs as a community organizer, work on campaigns across the country, and management of staff and million-dollar budgets, including time in Washington, D.C., and at the White House.[3] Carranza listed three key messages in that survey: supporting public schools and teacher pay, standing up for every woman's right to make her own healthcare choices, and affordable healthcare for all Texans.[3]
