Biography

Kimberly Overman is the Democratic nominee for Florida's 12th Congressional District. A financial planner who ran her own advisory firm for more than 30 years, she served on the Hillsborough County Commission from 2018 to 2022. She says she is running on lowering costs, protecting healthcare, and government accountability.[1][2]

Overman was born in New York, New York, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School.[1] She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1981 and received additional education from the College of Financial Planning in 1988.[1] She spent more than 30 years as a financial advisor, earning the Certified Financial Planner designation and, according to her campaign website, building an advisory firm focused on ethical financial guidance.[1][2]

Overman was elected to the Hillsborough County Commission (District 7, at-large) in 2018, defeating Todd Marks and Kim O'Connor in the general election. She served from 2018 to 2022 and lost re-election in 2022 to Joshua Wostal.[1] She says she chaired the board and served as vice chair of the Emergency Policy Group during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that she also chaired the county's Affordable Housing Advisory Board and Commission on Human Trafficking.[2][1] She won the August 18, 2026 Democratic primary for Florida's 12th District with 52.7% of the vote, defeating Darren McAuley.[1]

Overman describes herself as a mother, grandmother and small business owner. She says she became the legal guardian of her grandson in 2020 and later cared for her adult son until his death in 2023.[1][2] She has lived in the Tampa Bay area for more than 40 years, according to Ballotpedia, and lists decades of community service including the Seminole Heights Foundation board and the Hillsborough County Housing Finance Authority.[1][2]
