Biography
Kimball Banks is the Democratic candidate for the North Dakota House of Representatives, District 33, in the November 3, 2026 general election, having advanced from the June 9, 2026 Democratic primary.[1][2] An archaeologist with a Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, he describes himself in a Ballotpedia survey as a New Deal Democrat who has worked in federal resource management and as a consultant.[1][3]
Kimball Banks earned a high school diploma from Carlmont High School and a Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University in 1984, and his career experience includes working as an archaeologist, according to Ballotpedia.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he worked for two tribes after graduate school, then for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Branch of Forestry and the Bureau of Reclamation, which brought him to North Dakota in 1989.[3] He said he later managed a consulting firm in Bismarck and taught a couple of courses at Bismarck State College.[3]
Banks said in the survey that voters in District 33 tell him they feel legislators are not listening to them, and that he wants legislators to be more responsive to constituents.[3] He also said North Dakota should prepare thoughtfully for the effects of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and data centers, with education as the key to meeting those challenges.[3] He listed education, affordable health care, housing and day care, property tax, and the economic effects of tariffs on farmers and ranchers among his policy interests.[3]
