Biography
Kevin Garner is the Democratic candidate for the Missouri House of Representatives, District 24, in the November 3, 2026 general election, and is the only candidate listed for that race.[1][2] A Kansas City communications specialist and former college instructor, he says he is running on reproductive freedom, workers' rights, public education and lowering the cost of housing and health care.[1][3]
Kevin Garner graduated from Oak Park High School, earned a bachelor's degree from William Jewell College in 2007 and a graduate degree from Texas Tech University in 2009.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, Garner said he was raised in a working-class family with union roots, is the grandson of Mexican immigrants and was the first in his family to graduate from college.[3] He said he began his career teaching communication courses and coaching the debate team at William Jewell College, then worked in Jefferson City as communications director for Progress Missouri.[3]
Garner was a candidate in the 2014 Democratic primary for Missouri House District 18, which Lauren Arthur won.[1] In the survey, he said he co-founded the Midtown Democratic Club of Kansas City, is a partner in a small business focused on electing Democrats, and serves with his husband on their West Plaza neighborhood association board.[3] He described his priorities as reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, workers' rights, public education, lower housing and health care costs, reducing gun violence and creating career pathways beyond a four-year degree.[3]
