Biography

Joshua Umbaugh is the Libertarian candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives, District 40, in the November 3, 2026 general election, after advancing from the Libertarian Party primary on May 5, 2026.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he lives in Miamisburg with his wife and daughter and is running for state representative.[2]

In a Ballotpedia survey, Joshua Umbaugh said he grew up in a small Midwestern town, earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and settled in Miamisburg with his wife, where they have raised their daughter for over a decade.[2] He said he serves his community through his church, youth soccer and the Citizens Urban Forestry Advisory Board.[2]

Umbaugh said his campaign would represent the people of District 40 rather than follow lobbyists or party leadership, and that he would not take part in culture-war disputes.[2] He also said state representatives should be careful stewards of Ohioans' money and that large corporations should not be subsidized or bailed out.[2] He said he supports Defend the Guard legislation, which would prohibit deploying Ohio National Guard troops to overseas combat without a formal congressional declaration of war.[2]
