Biography
Joshua Baker is the Democratic candidate for Kentucky State Senate District 24 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against Republican incumbent Shelley Funke Frommeyer.[1] Ballotpedia lists his career experience as hospitality management and U.S. Army service from 2010 to 2011.[1]
Baker has a Campbell County High School education, according to Ballotpedia, and in a Ballotpedia survey he said he also attended the C.E. McCormick trade school.[1][2] He said he enlisted in the Army after high school but that a back injury ended his military career, and that he then worked in the service industry and became a hospitality general manager by age 27.[2] Baker said that watching the service industry during COVID-19 and after the 2024 election led him to research a run for the State Senate beginning in January 2025.[2]
In the survey, Baker listed his key campaign messages as transparent and accountable government, full funding for education and statewide health care, and recreational legalization of cannabis.[2] He said he is personally passionate about protecting Kentuckians and the state's natural environment, including labor protections, civil rights, health care and conservation.[2]
