Biography

Jonathan Sickler is a Republican state senator from District 17 in Grand Forks who took office in June 2022 and is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2][3] He is a lawyer and chief legal officer of AE2S, an engineering consulting firm.[1][2]

Jonathan Sickler earned a B.A. from the University of North Dakota in 1999 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2002.[1][2] His career has included work as a lawyer and as chief legal officer of AE2S, an engineering consulting firm.[1]

Sickler assumed office on June 2, 2022, succeeding Ray Holmberg, and advanced from the Republican primary on June 9, 2026.[1] He faces Democrat Katie Benton in the general election.[1][3] His 2025 assignments include the Appropriations Committee and its Government Operations Division, and he chairs the interim Higher Education Institutions Committee.[2] His legislative biography lists him as married with three children.[2]
