Biography
John Perryman is the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin State Assembly District 31 in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing incumbent Tyler August (R).[1][3] In a Ballotpedia survey, Perryman said he is a pediatrician with a 33-year career and that this is his first campaign.[2]
In the Ballotpedia survey, Perryman said he was born in Detroit and grew up in southeast Michigan, the son of a UAW member and a nurse.[2] He said he graduated from college and medical school at the University of Michigan and then worked as a pediatrician for 33 years.[2] Perryman said he became involved with the Democratic Party in 2017, first in Illinois and then in Wisconsin after moving there in 2019, and that he has done advocacy work for Physicians for a National Health Care Program.[2]
Perryman said affordability is a key priority, with four areas of focus: housing, health care, childcare and utility costs.[2] He said he supports measures such as a public insurance option, co-ops for negotiating drug prices and caps on the costs of certain commonly used medicines, and that Wisconsin should fully remedy what he described as years of gradual defunding of public education.[2] Perryman listed endorsements from the UAW, 314 Action, State Senator Mark Spreitzer and State Representatives Clinton Anderson, Brienne Brown and Ann Roe.[2]
