Biography
John Lowndes is the Democratic candidate for the Florida State Senate, District 10, in the November 3, 2026 general election; he is the mayor of Maitland and an attorney.[1][2][3] He advanced from the August 18 Democratic primary.[2]
Lowndes graduated from Edgewater High School and, according to his Ballotpedia survey, earned degrees from Florida State University and the University of Florida.[2][3] Ballotpedia lists a law degree from American University Washington College of Law.[2] The survey says he became an attorney specializing in commercial, local government and healthcare law, and that he and his wife, Julie, raised three children in Maitland after living in Alaska and Washington, D.C.[3]
Lowndes said he was elected to the Maitland City Council in 2013 and, after two terms, was elected mayor in 2021.[3] He cited a new public library, downtown revitalization and long-term growth planning as community investments during that time.[3]
In the survey, Lowndes said he is running to lower costs, support public education, protect Seminole County's rural boundary and restore a more balanced, respectful approach to government.[3]
