On the ballot Nov 3, 2026: North Carolina House District 52

Biography

Joe Parfitt is the Democratic candidate for the North Carolina House of Representatives, District 52, in the November 3, 2026 general election, in which he faces incumbent Ben Moss (R).[1][2] A U.S. Army veteran and public school teacher, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that he is running because the legislature has failed to fund public education.[2][3]

Parfitt graduated from Northampton Area High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 2015 and a graduate degree from National Defense University in 2017, according to Ballotpedia.[2] He served in the U.S. Army from 1999 to 2020 and lists his profession as teacher.[2]

In the survey, Parfitt named publishing a budget, funding public schools and opposing private school vouchers, and opposing a proposed 2026 state constitutional amendment on abortion and birth control as his key messages.[3] He also said he would increase teacher and school staff pay, invest in community colleges, and raise the corporate tax rate to fund these efforts.[3]
