Biography

Joe Moss is the Republican candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives, District 89, in the November 3, 2026 general election, after advancing from the August 4 Republican primary.[1][2] An entrepreneur and Ottawa County commissioner since 2023, he chaired the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners from 2023 to 2024.[1][3]

Moss was born in Hudsonville, Michigan, graduated from Freedom Baptist Schools, and earned a bachelor's degree from Cedarville University in 2008.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said his degrees were in accounting and marketing, that he built technology companies serving clients in Michigan and nationally, and that he lives in Hudsonville with his wife, Suzy, and their family.[3]

Moss said he assumed office on the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners on January 3, 2023, and was re-elected to a second term beginning January 2, 2025.[3] He said he co-founded Ottawa Impact in 2021 with Sylvia Rhodea and that its political action committee helped elect eight Republican candidates, including both of them, to the board in 2022.[3] He cited eliminating the county's diversity, equity and inclusion department among the reforms he led as chair.[3] Moss listed parental rights, local control over land use, energy and agriculture, pro-life policies, and fiscal responsibility and tax relief among his priorities.[3]
