Biography

Jett Newton is the Green Party candidate for Michigan House of Representatives District 38 in the November 3, 2026 general election, against incumbent Joey Andrews (D) and Mark Krieger (R).[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, he described himself as a 21-year-old merchant mariner and organizer from St. Joseph, Michigan.[3]

Newton earned a high school diploma from St. Joseph High School, and his career experience includes working in transportation.[1] He advanced from the Green Party convention on July 18, 2026.[1]

In the survey, Newton said he previously worked for Andrews and that he will not accept more than $20 a month from any donor in the race.[3] He said he would cut or eliminate the state income tax for 83 percent of Michigan residents through a "Full Paycheck Rebate" and provide free minimum auto insurance coverage, paid for by raising taxes on the top 17 percent of earners.[3] He also said workers should own their workplaces and tenants should run their housing, and he stated that he would "bring socialism to Michigan."[3]
