Biography
Jesse Fitzgerald is the Green Party candidate for Hawaii House of Representatives District 50 in the November 3, 2026 general election, facing Democratic incumbent Michael Lee.[1] A lifelong Hawaii resident who worked in his family's painting business, he campaigns on Hawaiian sovereignty, affordable housing and demilitarization, according to his Ballotpedia survey.[2]
Fitzgerald earned a high school diploma from Roosevelt High School and a bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaii in 1996.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he grew up in Laie, Kahaluu and Makiki, has lived in Kailua since 1992, and studied anthropology with a focus on Pacific island cultures.[2] He said he then joined his father's small licensed painting company, spent about 30 years there, and lived in California for five years as a licensed contractor before returning to Hawaii.[2]
Fitzgerald listed three key messages in the survey: restoring the Hawaiian Kingdom and recognizing Hawaiian sovereignty, revitalizing the economy through measures such as affordable housing, a living wage, Medicare for all and local food and green energy, and demilitarizing Hawaii.[2] He also said he wants government to better represent working people and the land rather than corporate donors.[2]
