Biography

Jenny Costa Honeycutt is the Republican nominee for South Carolina's 1st District, an open seat. A Charleston-area attorney and small business owner, she was elected to the Charleston County Council in 2018. She describes herself as a lifelong Lowcountry resident and conservative, and her campaign website emphasizes law enforcement, border security and fiscal responsibility.[1][2][3]

According to her campaign website, Honeycutt grew up on James Island and is a lifelong Lowcountry resident; she graduated from Ashley Hall.[2] She earned dual bachelor's degrees in political studies and speech communication from Meredith College and a law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and during law school she researched legislation's impact on South Carolina businesses in the Governor's Office.[2][1] She practiced law at a statewide firm for eight years, then founded her own firm, Costa Honeycutt, on James Island, which she says helps businesses navigate government regulations and the legal system. Her campaign website lists professional recognitions including "Legal Elite of the Lowcountry," Super Lawyers and an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and says she is a certified circuit court mediator.[2][1]

Honeycutt was first elected to the Charleston County Council in 2018. When she announced her congressional bid in November 2025 she was still on the council and said she would not seek re-election to that seat in order to focus on the campaign.[3][5] She finished first in the June 9, 2026, Republican primary with 22.1% in an 11-candidate field, and won the June 23 runoff over state Rep. Mark Smith with 53.7%. She faces Democrat Nancy Lacore, a retired Navy vice admiral, in the November 3 general election.[1][3][4] According to her campaign website, Honeycutt and her husband, Trey, have three children and attend James Island Christian Church, and she is involved with the Junior League of Charleston.[2]
