Biography
Jen Mazzuckelli is the Democratic nominee for Ohio's 2nd District, a former human-resources worker and high school English teacher. She describes her campaign as centered on congressional oversight of the executive branch and responsiveness to constituents, drawing on her experience with economic hardship.[1]
Mazzuckelli describes growing up in a middle-class family of public servants; her mother was a teacher and her father retired from the Public Health Service. She graduated from Glen Este High School in Clermont County, Ohio, and attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C., before earning a bachelor's degree from Illinois College (1991).[1] In a WVXU candidate survey, she wrote that her degree was in English and creative writing and that she interned in the Pentagon's Office of Community Relations. She later earned a graduate degree from Miami University of Ohio (2005), a Master of Arts in Teaching in secondary education.[1][2]
Mazzuckelli worked in human resources, then became a licensed teacher and taught high school English until 2013. She wrote that she also ran for Clermont County commissioner in 2024.[1][2] She says her life changed in 2013 with a domestic-violence case against her husband and a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, after which her family fell to an "extremely low" income level, and she cites that experience as a reason for running.[1] She describes community service as a Girl Scout leader and assistant coach for Girls on the Run.[1]
