Biography

Jason Gibbs is the Republican nominee for California's 27th Congressional District. He is a mechanical engineer who worked on rocket launch systems in the aerospace industry and has served on the Santa Clarita City Council since 2020, including as mayor. His campaign website says he is running on lowering the cost of living, public safety, and local control.[1][2]

Gibbs describes himself on his campaign website as a lifelong Californian who lives in Santa Clarita with his wife, Chandra, and their two young children.[1] He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.[1] He then worked in the aerospace industry, including designing and building fueling system infrastructure for rocket programs and supporting the Delta II, Delta IV, and Atlas V launch systems, according to his campaign website.[1]

Gibbs ran for the Santa Clarita City Council in 2018 without winning, and was elected in 2020.[2] His fellow council members chose him as mayor, and Ballotpedia lists his years as mayor as 2022 to 2023.[2] He won re-election in 2024, taking office for District 3 on December 10, 2024, for a term ending in December 2028.[2] His campaign website says he has served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club, the Valley Industry Association, and the Salvation Army.[1]
