Jared Duval

Jared Duval is a Democratic and Vermont Progressive Party candidate for the Vermont House of Representatives, Washington-4 District, in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][2] He has been executive director of Energy Action Network since 2017, and he serves on the Vermont Climate Council.[1][3]

Jared Duval wrote in a Ballotpedia survey that he grew up in the Upper Connecticut River Valley as part of the ninth generation of his family in Vermont and has lived in Montpelier for 12 years.[3] Ballotpedia lists him as a graduate of Lebanon High School who earned a bachelor's degree from Wheaton College in 2005 and a graduate degree from Princeton University in 2014.[1] It also states that he interned for then-Congressman Bernie Sanders in 2002 and was on the policy team for Howard Dean's 2003 presidential campaign.[1]

Duval was Vermont's economic development director at the Agency of Commerce and Community Development from 2014 to 2017, according to his survey responses.[3] He chairs the Science & Data committee of the Vermont Climate Council and the board of the Public Assets Institute, and he is a founding board member of the Montpelier Emergency Cold Weather Shelter.[3] He ran in the August 9, 2022 Democratic primary for the Vermont Senate Washington District, receiving 5,606 votes (18.3%) in a race to nominate three candidates.[1]

Duval said his main reason for running is to work for a fairer, more progressive tax system in which the highest-income and wealthiest Vermonters pay a larger share.[3] He also listed expanded affordable housing, accessible health care and a bill to require identification and prohibit masking by law enforcement among his priorities.[3]
