James Washington-Ward was born and raised in the Bronx, briefly lived in Pennsylvania before returning, and lives in the Baychester neighborhood.[2] He graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational Technical High School and, as a youth, was a member of the Star of the Sea Sea Cadet Corps, a military youth organization in the Bronx.[2]
As of December 2024 Washington-Ward was the Conservative Party District Leader for the 83rd Assembly District.[2] A local news profile that month described his first campaign, for New York City Council District 12, as centered on police-community relations and youth and community programs.[2] He ran in the November 4, 2025 general election on the Conservative and United Alliance Party lines, finishing third behind incumbent Kevin Riley (D) and Franchie Muniz Sr. (R) with 873 votes (2.8%).[1]
The Bronx Conservative Party later endorsed Washington-Ward as its 2026 candidate for State Assembly District 83.[3]
