Jamee Decio

Jamee Decio is the Democratic nominee for Indiana's 2nd District and an Elkhart native and Notre Dame law graduate.[1][2][3] She worked as an Elkhart County deputy prosecutor and attorney and later lived in California, and she is running on affordability, local industry and what her campaign calls protecting democracy.[1][2][3][4]

Decio was born and raised in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of businessman and philanthropist Art Decio, who died in 2020, according to WNDU and her campaign website.[2][3] She earned bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Notre Dame, and her campaign website says she was among the first 325 women admitted to Notre Dame and one of the first women to graduate from Notre Dame Law.[1][2][3]

Decio worked as an Elkhart County deputy prosecutor and attorney, according to her campaign website, and Ballotpedia also lists Elkhart Legal Aid and the Writers Guild of America as affiliations.[1][2] In her thirties she moved to California, where she lived in Los Angeles and worked as a lawyer and screenwriter, before returning to northern Indiana to run for Congress.[3][4] Her campaign website says she fought through the courts for eight years to adopt her son.[2]

Decio describes herself as a child advocate and union member.[2] She won the May 5, 2026 Democratic primary with 72.1% of the vote over Shaun Maeyens and will face Republican incumbent Rudy Yakym in November.[1][3][5]
