Izzy Smith-Wade-El (Ismail Smith-Wade-El) is a Democratic state representative from Pennsylvania House District 49 who took office on December 1, 2022, and is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1] A Lancaster native, he previously served five years on Lancaster City Council, according to his Ballotpedia survey.[2]
Smith-Wade-El was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earned a high school diploma from West Nottingham Academy, and received a bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2014.[1] In a 2022 Ballotpedia survey, he said he first ran for City Council in 2017.[2]
In the 2023-2024 session he was assigned to the Committee on Committees and the Education, Urban Affairs & Housing, Human Services and Local Government committees.[1] In a 2026 Ballotpedia survey, he said he had written legislation on housing access and affordability, protections for queer and trans youth, and support for immigrants and refugees.[2] In that survey he listed increased tenant protections, fair funding for Lancaster schools and raising the minimum wage among his campaign messages.[2] Republican Vanessa Acosta is his opponent on the November 3, 2026 ballot.[1]
