Biography
Helene Neville is an independent candidate for North Dakota's at-large House seat, running for office for the first time.[1][2] A nurse with more than 42 years of experience, she describes herself in her Ballotpedia survey as a public health professional, cancer survivor, author, entrepreneur, and endurance athlete.[1] She says she is running on health care, the economy, disparities, and term and age limits.[1]
According to the North Dakota Monitor, Neville is a Philadelphia native who now lives in Jamestown.[2] She earned a high school diploma from Burlington High School and an associate degree from Iowa Western Community College in 1984.[1]
Neville works as a nurse and says she has cared for patients for more than 42 years in hospitals, clinics, rural communities, tribal health systems, correctional facilities, and public health programs.[1] The Monitor describes her as a former travel nurse and a public health consultant who has worked in eight states, and as the author of multiple books.[2] She says she was diagnosed with Stage IV lymphoma in 2020 and survived, and that she has run more than 16,600 miles across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, including fundraising runs; the Monitor puts her cross-country running to promote healthy living at nearly 17,000 miles.[1][2]
Neville sought the Democratic-NPL endorsement for the U.S. House seat, finished third, and filed as an independent; she has not sought elected office before.[2] She says she is limiting campaign fundraising to $30,000, will not accept PAC contributions, and is traveling to every incorporated community in North Dakota.[1]
