Biography
Garret Rushforth is the Democratic candidate for the Utah State Senate, District 7, in the November 3, 2026 general election, an open seat also contested by Republican Stephanie Hollist and Constitution Party candidate Jeffrey Ostler.[1][2] A public school teacher, he said in a Ballotpedia survey that his priorities include education funding, the Great Salt Lake and the cost of living.[2][3]
Rushforth graduated from Viewmont High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 2019 and a graduate degree from Western Governors University in 2025, according to his Ballotpedia profile.[2] The profile lists his career experience as working as a public school teacher.[2] According to his Ballotpedia survey response, he grew up in Centerville, Utah, and teaches social studies and theater.[3]
Rushforth's survey response says he is running so that District 7 residents have a representative who understands the cost-of-living crisis, concerns about the Great Salt Lake and issues in education.[3] He said he supports increasing education funding, noting that Utah has the lowest per-pupil spending in the United States.[3]
