Eric Brooks is a Republican member of the West Virginia House of Delegates from District 45, where he has served since 2022, and is seeking re-election in the November 3, 2026 general election against Democrat Joseph Golden and write-in candidate Christopher Ratliff.[1][2] Before entering the legislature he worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.[1][3]
Eric Brooks was born in Beckley, West Virginia, and earned a bachelor's degree from West Virginia University in 1994.[1] In a 2024 Ballotpedia survey, he said he grew up in the coalfields of southern West Virginia, began his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 1995, and retired in July 2021 after more than 26 years of service.[3] He has been affiliated with the NRA and the West Virginia Citizens Defense League.[1]
Brooks's committee assignments in the 2023-2024 session were Government Organization, Jails and Prisons, Political Subdivisions, and Technology and Infrastructure.[1] In the 2024 survey he named education, taxes and jobs as the public policy areas he is most passionate about, and said he wants to transform the state's educational system, eliminate the business inventory tax and attract more businesses to West Virginia.[3]
