Biography

Emily Hau is the Republican and Independent Party of Connecticut candidate for Connecticut House of Representatives District 132 in the November 3, 2026 general election, against incumbent Jennifer Leeper (D).[1][2] In a Ballotpedia survey, she said she has worked at Yale University for two decades, running day-to-day operations of the Yale Institute for Foundations of Data Science.[3]

Hau became the Republican nominee after Carol Pontrelli, who had advanced from the canceled August 11 Republican primary, withdrew; according to Ballotpedia, the Connecticut Republican Party chose Hau to replace her.[1] In a Ballotpedia survey, Hau said she began her Yale career at the Yale Child Study Center, which sparked a lasting interest in autism and special education.[3] She said she has lived in Fairfield since 2015 with her husband, William, and their two daughters.[3]

Hau said she organized the Nutmegger Oil Group, a neighbor-run heating-oil buying co-op that she said has grown from 117 households to more than 900 and saved members roughly $1.6 million.[3] She also said she read her town's speed-camera contract, noted that it cited another state's law, and built public tools for residents to comment on local government decisions.[3] Her stated priorities include affordability, especially energy costs; transparency and accountability; and protecting open space and flood resilience.[3]
