Biography
Daniel Simonds is the Democratic candidate for the Maine House of Representatives, District 73, in the November 3, 2026 general election, where he faces incumbent Republican Michael Soboleski.[1] A forester and consultant who lives in Rangeley, he described himself in a Ballotpedia survey as a beginner at politics.[1][2]
Simonds said in a Ballotpedia survey that he studied forestry at the University of Maine and built a career in the forest products industry, including 20 years managing woodlands.[2] He said he came to Rangeley with his wife, Lucy, in 1990, was laid off when a large paper company left the town, and then founded a consulting business specializing in environmental standards for the wood products industry.[2]
Simonds won the Democratic primary on June 9, 2026, with 1,031 votes.[1] In the survey, he said government should work for the common good, that concentrated wealth and political power are a defining challenge, and that rural District 73 communities deserve to be heard on their own terms.[2]
