Dana Staples

Dana Staples is the Democratic candidate for Maine House of Representatives District 88 in the November 3, 2026 general election.[1][4] He is a longtime Auburn board and committee member who was elected to the Auburn City Council in 2021 and has worked in the technology sector for more than twenty years.[3]

Ballotpedia lists Staples as a graduate of Edward Little High School, with a bachelor's degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a graduate degree from the University of Southern Maine, and gives his profession as computer programmer.[1] His campaign website says he grew up in Minot and has lived in Auburn for about 25 years, settling in South Auburn in 2007.[3] In a Ballotpedia survey, he said he has more than twenty years in computer software and IT in the private sector and most recently worked as vice president of IT for a clean energy company.[2]

According to his campaign website, Staples began volunteering for the city of Auburn in 2014 over the future of the old hockey rink and was elected to an at-large seat on the City Council in 2021.[3] In the survey he said he has served on Auburn boards and committees for over ten years, including the Planning Board, the Parks and Rec Advisory Board and the Complete Streets Committee, and currently serves on the Comprehensive Plan Committee.[2]

Staples advanced from the Democratic primary on June 9, 2026.[1] In the survey he said his key messages are that people who work in Maine should be able to afford to live there, that leaders should be willing to compromise across party lines, and that Maine should retain its students in the workforce.[2]
