Biography

Dan Schwartz is the Democratic nominee for Maryland's 1st Congressional District and a first-time candidate for office. He spent more than a decade working on consumer financial protection at the Conference of State Bank Supervisors before leaving to run. He describes his campaign as focused on affordability, the economy, representation and election reform.[1][2][3][4]

Schwartz was born in New York, New York, and graduated from Hall High School.[1] He earned a bachelor's degree from George Washington University in 2010.[1] He worked for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors in Washington, D.C., for more than a decade, most recently as a senior director, in consumer financial protection; he describes his career as working with state and federal regulators to protect consumers from financial misconduct.[1][2][5] He left the job in April 2025 to run for Congress.[3][5]

A resident of Talbot County and described as a political newcomer, Schwartz won the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary with 46.3% of the vote over Randi White and others.[5][3][6] He was endorsed by Gov. Wes Moore and Sen. Chris Van Hollen, among others.[5][3]
