Biography

Clemson Turregano is the Democratic candidate for South Carolina House of Representatives District 33 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against Republican incumbent Travis Moore.[1] He served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 2004 and, in a Ballotpedia survey, described himself as a veteran, small business owner and volunteer emergency responder.[1][2]

Clemson Turregano was born in Tucson, Arizona, and served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 2004.[1] He earned a high school diploma from Bishop Verot High School, a bachelor's degree from The Citadel in 1983, graduate degrees from Syracuse University in 1992 and the U.S. Army War College in 2002, and a Ph.D. from Syracuse University in 1995.[1] Ballotpedia lists his career experience as educational consultant and executive, and notes affiliations with the Association of the United States Army, the Military Officers Association and The Citadel Association of Graduates.[1]

Turregano was the Democratic nominee for the same seat in 2024, when he received 27.9% of the vote to Moore's 71.9% in the general election.[1] In his 2026 Ballotpedia survey, he said he is running to make Spartanburg "free, smart and strong" by working to increase affordability, livability and workability, and that he opposes redistricting.[2] He also said he is concerned about poorly planned data centers and wants full vetting of incoming businesses.[2]
