Dundas said in a Ballotpedia survey that he grew up in Wells in a single-income family with five younger siblings and worked part-time jobs in foodservice, hog farms and construction.[3] He attended United South Central High School and St. Olaf College, and he has taught band in Austin public schools since 2016.[1][3] According to the survey, he was named the 2025 Austin Teacher of the Year and a 2025 Minnesota Teacher of the Year finalist.[3]
Dundas lives with his wife, Kelsey, and their four children, and said his family relied on state healthcare during his oldest daughter's premature birth and later cancer treatment.[3] He said Minnesota must act to protect rural clinics and hospitals, guarantee a minimum level of funding for the smallest schools, and invest in affordable rental housing and entry-level homes.[3]
