Biography

Christine (Cristina) Fontanelli is the Republican and Save NYC Party nominee challenging incumbent Tony Simone. She describes herself as a lifelong New Yorker and an award-winning opera singer, actress and television host, and is the founder of a nonprofit supporting young performers. Her campaign site lists public safety, education, housing, cost of living, health care, and arts and culture as her issues.[1][2][3]

Fontanelli's campaign website describes a decades-long international career in which she has performed with major orchestras and at venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.[2] She founded the Cristina Fontanelli Foundation, a nonprofit that, according to the website, supports young performers and expands access to the arts.[2] The site also says her great-grandfather, Rocco Maria Marasco, was a past Assemblyman, and Ballotpedia lists her as the Republican and Save NYC Party candidate.[2][3]
