Biography
Chris Metcalfe is the Republican candidate for Illinois House of Representatives District 85 in the November 3, 2026 general election, running against incumbent Dagmara Avelar (D).[1] Metcalfe is a project manager and former chemical engineer from Bolingbrook.[1][2]
Metcalfe was born in Covina, California, and earned bachelor's degrees from Southern Oregon State University in 1978 and Lamar University in 1986.[1] Ballotpedia says he has worked as a project manager, chemical engineer, operations manager and paramedic, and in underwater rescue and recovery for a sheriff's department.[1] In a 2022 Ballotpedia survey, he said he designed and built chemical plants for large companies and lives in Bolingbrook with his wife, Karen, whose tax and accounting business he helps run.[2]
Metcalfe lost the District 85 general election to Avelar in 2022 and again in 2024.[1] He won the March 17, 2026 Republican primary.[1]
